Re: Data on minorities in Romania

Dear all,
The pages at are produced on behalf of the
Education for National Minorities Department of the Romanian Education

There are three sections in these pages: General Info on Education for
Minorities, Info on Education for Rroma, Ministry Orders and
notifications - unfortunately all include info in Romanian only.

The General Info on Education for Minorities section contains basic
data on the education network for minorities, some government and
ministry regulations, content matters including objectives, the
Romanian language and literature curriculum for minorities. The
summary on the page is pretty rich - unfortunately other interesting
documents, including statistical data, have not been uploaded so far.

The Education for Rroma page, due to efforts of inspector Gheorghe
Sarau, is truly remarkable - you can find there anything you want,
from statistics to methodological discussions, including full lists of
educational units, rroma teaching staff and education inspectors, NGOs
that support education for Rroma etc. Mr.Sarau also produces and
circulates a monthly bulletin specifically dealing with Education for
Rroma issues.
An e-mail sent to will first and foremost reach
Gheorghe Sarau (Rroma issues) and Szatmari Ildiko (Hungarian issues).
I suspect that the absence of some documents on these pages, as well
as the absence of an English version for the entire site is due to a
major facelift the Ministry site has recently gone through - don't be
too harsh on them and direct your inquiries to
