The Encyclopedia of the World's Minorities

Dear Colleague,

In 2002, Fitzroy Dearborn Publishers (Chicago and London) plans to
publish The Encyclopedia of the World's Minorities, a new reference
source intended to be the authoritative guide to its subject well into
the 21st century. In a world filled with ethnic tensions, religious
hatred, and endemic civil war, the encyclopedia will be a vital and
necessary resource for academics, journalists, activists, and
government officials, as well as for the general public.

The book is planned as a two-volume, A-Z encyclopedia, approximately
2,000 pages long with some 600 essay entries. We are committed to
producing a work of reference that exhibits the highest standards of
scholarly research and theoretical sophistication, offers a history
and context for each minority and concept covered, and supplies useful
demographic data. We are currently in the germinal stage of locating
contributors, and I hope you will take a moment to examine the
complete list of entries by visiting our website at
http://www.fitzroydearborn.com/chicago/minorities.htm

If you discover one or more selections that interest you, please send
the on-line Contributor Information and Essay Request form so we may
consider your candidacy. The website also contains a detailed
description of the project, a list of advisory board members,
submission guidelines, a sample essay, and payment information.
Entries will be assigned on the basis of availability and contributor
expertise. If you lack Internet access but would like to learn more
about the project, you may contact commissioning editor Robin Rone
(robin@fitzroydearborn.com or 312-587-0131 ext. 232).

We would also greatly appreciate your bringing this project to the
attention of your colleagues and qualified graduate students. Please
direct any potential contributors to the project website or to the
contact information above.

I very much hope that you will be able to write for the Encyclopedia
of World's Minorities. I look forward to hearing from you at your
earliest opportunity, but no later than October 6, 2000. Our first
round of assignments will be made prior to the first of November with
deadlines beginning in January 2001.

Sincerely,

Carl Skutsch, Project Editor
